Cougar Question: Shima Baughman – BYU News

My job at BYU is… a criminal justice professor and distinguished scholar at the Wheatley Institute.

My favorite comfort food is… a hot cookie and vanilla ice cream.

Three things I always find in my fridge are… Persian cucumbers, strawberries and cookie dough (in the freezer).

I'm currently reading… “A Student's Life: The Biography of Neal A. Maxwell” by Bruce C. Hafen.

The best advice I've ever received about teaching is… to love my students as our Savior does.

My advice to new freshmen is… to attend the service on Tuesday in person. Just seeing all the faithful people who come every week will inspire you to be more dedicated. And you will also feel more strongly how the Holy Spirit speaks to you in these crucial moments of your life.

BYU's best kept secret is… the BYU Creamery cheeseburger and ice cream special on Monday nights.

My favorite ice cream flavor from BYU Creamery is… Chocolate chip cookie dough.

I hiked Y Mountain… once and only after seven years as a student here and one year as a professor. My 5- and 3-year-old sons accompanied me, bribed with fruit snacks, when they reached the top.
