A Palm Springs man who died in the hospital from an apparent stabbing was once featured on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” along with other reality shows and telenovelas.

Eduardo Xol, 58, of Palm Springs, appeared in 65 episodes of the ABC television series from 2005 to 2012, according to IMDB, an online entertainment database. The website credits Xol as the show's designer and as himself in a dozen other shows from 2005 to 2012. Early in his career, Xol appeared in telenovelas such as “Acapulco, cuerpo y alma” and “La jaula de oro.”

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol,” his family said in a statement to The Desert Sun. “As his family, we know that his kindness touched the lives of so many.” We ask that this kindness be reciprocated now so that our privacy can be respected as we process our grief. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Eduardo’s name to the Lupus Foundation of America as he spent so much of his life serving others.”

Tabloid TMZ first reported Xol's connection to the entertainment industry early Wednesday morning, saying Xol's mother had confirmed his death to the media outlet.

“It is almost incomprehensible that I am writing this post to say goodbye to someone who was so present and so important in my life,” wrote Richard Perez-Feria, former editor-in-chief of People en Español, on Instagram. “When I first learned that Eduardo Xol had died, I went numb. That didn’t fit with my thousands of experiences with him.”

He added that Xol was a “talented, beautiful, passionate friend, brother, son and partner.”

According to the Riverside County coroner, Xol died at 12:19 a.m. Friday at Desert Regional Medical Center. He was injured at 5:41 a.m. on Sept. 10, the same time Palm Springs police received a report of an injured man.

Officers responded to the call from the 400 block of East Arenas Road and discovered a man suffering from serious injuries inside an apartment who told them he had been stabbed, although he did not identify the attacker, police said in a news release.

Officers later arrested 34-year-old Richard Joseph Gonzales of Cathedral City after he called police claiming he had been attacked the night before. Gonzales was initially booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of attempted murder.

Following Xol's death, the police have requested that a murder charge be filed against him. He was held without bail.
