God of War Ragnarok's PSN PC requirement has been removed by the modder, but only for a short time

God of War Ragnarok finally made the jump from PlayStation 5 to PC earlier this month. And while fans love the game itself, they're far less enthusiastic about Sony's edict forcing PC users to connect to the PlayStation Network just to experience the title. This has already resulted in Ragnarok's PC release on Steam being bombarded with reviews from dissatisfied players. And now one modder has already found a way to get around Sony's restriction – but it didn't take long for the mod to be taken offline.

As IGN reports, a modder named iArtorias has released the NoPSSDK mod, which removes the PSN linking restriction and essentially gives God of War Ragnarok an offline mode. Additionally, iArtorias has promised on its Nexus Mods page to “try to keep the tool around even if something changes, but hopefully nothing significant happens.”

Given Sony's refusal to budge on this issue, it's almost inevitable that the company will oppose the iArtorias mod and any others that remove the PSN requirement. It appears this may have already happened, as Nexus Mods said the mod had been taken offline by its creator – and the site was not told why.

However, it's unclear why Sony even took this into account with Ragnarok, as the game is only a single-player title. It makes more sense to use PSN for multiplayer games that actually need to be online. There is no apparent reason why Ragnarok needs to be subject to the same restrictions.

Sony previously showed some willingness to compromise when it dropped the PSN requirement for Helldivers 2 after backlash. However, the upcoming remake of Until Dawn will also be subject to a PSN connection requirement. This issue will likely continue to irritate gamers if Sony continues to insist on adding the PSN requirement for future PC games.
