New developments in the case of missing Morgan Nick will be announced on October 1st

A “significant development” is set to be announced in one of Arkansas' most notorious and closely watched unsolved cases – the disappearance of Morgan Nick.

The Alma Police Department will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. on October 1, 2024 to report critical developments in the investigation.

Missing Morgan Nick's mother is still fighting to bring her home 26 years later

Morgan Nick was just 6 years old when she was kidnapped on the evening of June 9, 1995 as she played with friends and chased fireflies. She was just feet away from her mother, Colleen, at a baseball stadium in Alma when she was kidnapped. Despite the extensive investigation that followed and the persistence of law enforcement in the years that followed, Morgan remains missing.

“Until someone can tell me that Morgan didn't survive, I will fight every day for her to come home,” Colleen Nick told KATV in 2021. “There is a tremendous amount of truth, hope and encouragement in this fact. “When Morgan was captured, the state of Arkansas stood up.”

A year after Morgan's disappearance, Colleen Nick founded the Morgan Nick Foundation, which gives people in similar situations the opportunity to connect with and support other parents and families with missing children.

“It may be difficult to recognize a missing child, but it is not difficult for any of us to recognize a child in trouble, and what we do with it could change the course of the child's life,” she said. “If there’s something you’ve always wanted to share or something that’s bothering you, now is the time to do it.”

If Nick had the opportunity to speak with Morgan, or if Morgan came across this report, here's what she would want her to know:

“Morgan, it's okay if you've forgotten us or aren't sure who you are, but we've never forgotten you,” she said. “We are still fighting for you. We have an army of people fighting for you and we are coming to get you.”

Authorities dig up soil at Oklahoma home linked to Morgan Nick case

Over the years, multiple law enforcement agencies have worked together to investigate countless leads in Morgan's disappearance.

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office was called to take a look at a location possibly related to the kidnapping and to assess the items and materials moved.

Ultimately, no arrests were made and no evidence was found in connection with the case.

A person of interest was named by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2021.

Authorities are searching for information about the man in Morgan Nick's disappearance

Billy Jack Lincks, a veteran and Arkansas native, died in 2000 while incarcerated.

But findings from his previous crimes, including an attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old about 8 miles from where Morgan disappeared, prompted authorities to urge community members to come forward and provide tips about Linck's life.

The briefing, which will discuss this “significant development” in the investigation, will be held in the Alma Police Courtroom.
