Pete Rose's cause of death has been announced

Pete Rose's cause of death was announced Tuesday by the Clark County Coroner/Medical Examiner.

Corner Melanie Rouse noted in a statement that Rose died of natural causes related to high blood pressure and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

According to the medical examiner's findings, diabetes was also named as a triggering factor.

There were no reports that Rose was seriously ill before his death, but the Cincinnati Enquirer reported that 2018 court filings related to his divorce indicated that Rose was “in poor health and disabled.”

Rose's attorney also said the baseball star had difficulty walking, was taking blood thinners and had three heart procedures in five years, the source said.

Rose had spent the day before his death enjoying time with his colleagues from the Reds' 1975 and 1976 World Series teams.

A photo from the Music City Sports Collectables and Autograph Show Facebook page showed Rose in a wheelchair along with her former teammates Dave Concepcion, George Foster, Tony Perez and Ken Griffey Sr.

Rose was MLB's hits king (4,256) and was a 17-time MLB All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner, as well as winning three World Series titles.

Rose was banned from baseball in 1989 for betting on baseball, which made him ineligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

The baseball legend denied the allegations for years before finally coming clean in 2004, while also insisting that he never bet against the Reds.

“Major League Baseball extends its deepest condolences to Pete Rose’s family, his friends throughout the game, and the fans in his hometown of Cincinnati, Philadelphia and beyond who admired his greatness, courage and determination on the field. May he rest in peace,” the league said in a statement on Rose’s death.
