Sun vs Lynx News: DiJonai Carrington wants all the smoke after aggressive steal from Kayla McBride

The drama between the No. 21! It was more of a heated contest than expected when the Connecticut Sun visited the Target Center for game two against the Minnesota Lynx in the playoff series. After the Lynx had already suffered a heavy defeat in their previous game, Minnesota was now under pressure to deliver a strong performance in front of their home crowd. Whether it was pushing their limits or playing a little more intensely, they seemed willing to do whatever it took to secure victory.

The Lynx delivered a commanding performance, but the real story came when both teams' No. 21s – DiJonai Carrington and Kayla McBride – nearly turned the game into a physical showdown. As Carrington, the Sun guard, tried to rally her team by weaving through the Lynx defense, she nearly fired a two-point shot from beyond the arc. But in a flash, McBride rushed up and tried to block the shot. She ripped the ball right out of Carrington's hands and let the sunshade fall to the ground.

The drama escalated when Carrington wasted no moment in getting back to his feet after that serious fall. The security guard seemed ready to pounce on McBride to settle the score. Luckily, Marina Mabrey intervened just in time, blocking Carrington's path and preventing the situation from spiraling out of control. Surely everyone was holding their breath to see what would transpire between the two No. 21 players.

Lynx took command in Game 2 amid tough physical confrontations

The Game 2 showdown ended with a score of 77-70 in favor of the Lynx, who maintained their dominance throughout the game. They consistently outscored the Sun and led after each of the first three quarters. Entering the fourth quarter, the Lynx had a comfortable nine-point lead, which the Sun were able to cut to seven points by the final buzzer.

One of the biggest surprises of the evening was the fight from Napheesa Collier, who ended up only scoring nine points. After an impressive average of 40 points in the first round, this performance was certainly unexpected. Collier faced her own challenges during the game, particularly when Marina Mabrey aggressively tried to take the ball away from her while she was on the floor trying to get back up.

Just moments after this violent clash, Marina Mabrey, who had later attempted to keep DiJonai Carrington calm during her confrontation with McBride, was hit with a hard elbow by McBride as she defended herself against her. Despite the difficult moments, Mabrey had a commendable performance, finishing the game with 15 points, one steal and one block. However, her shooting sense seemed to elude her.

After stunning fans with her long-range shots in Game 1, “Mar” struggled to find her rhythm in this match. She managed to sink just two of her eight attempts from beyond the arc, leaving everyone surprised by her unexpected drop in performance. If Mabrey had maintained her current shooting percentage from distance, the Sun might have been just one win away from the final. Nevertheless, Game 3 awaits, which will be played on Friday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena.
