Traffic coordination is strong in Clackamas County

Traffic coordination is strong in Clackamas CountyThe Joint Committee on Transportation (JCT) visited Clackamas County on September 26 to meet with 11 of 12 people as part of a statewide tour to hear from communities before developing a transportation package for the 2025 state legislative session.

In advance of this event, Clackamas County and its partners came together to create a unified message, resulting in a document entitled “Shared Values and Results.” This local conversation began in June at a retreat with the Clackamas County Coordinating Committee. The district and 12 cities have signed the Common Values and Results.

The group contended that without adequate transportation resources to accommodate maintenance and capital projects in our communities, our collective transportation system will continue to struggle, maintenance projects will become capital projects, and our transportation systems will fail to meet the public's expectations and uses.

The values and outcomes agreed upon by communities in Clackamas suggest that a transportation package:

  • Securing funding for road maintenance, increasing safety for all modes of transport and traffic management
  • ensures that tax money is used wisely
  • Funding must be provided to meet the commitments promised to the public
  • Providing sustainable long-term financing for first and last mile transit solutions
  • This includes funding to support transport networks that connect communities and provide people with jobs
  • Invest in transportation infrastructure that increases growth, safety and ease of use while reducing congestion on roads connecting urban and rural communities
