“Yellowstone reveals such a secret that scripts have been redacted,” says the cast

The return of the fifth season of Yellowstone is so mysterious that not even the cast knows how it will all turn out. The show's stars revealed Friday that the scripts for the second half of the season were edited so that the actors only knew their own lines, in some cases prompting real-time reactions as they filmed the return of the show, which is produced in Montana and will air later this fall.

“This season has been very mysterious,” says Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica Dutton, in a revealing video tease released by Paramount Network on Friday (below) that features interviews with the main Dutton family members — Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Luke Grimes and Cole Hauser. Star Kevin Costner, who played patriarch John Dutton, famously left the series before the finale, and how the series will handle his storyline remains under wraps.

The cast of TV's biggest show remained largely silent ahead of these episodes of the flagship series of Taylor Sheridan's now sprawling series Yellowstone-Verse. Season 5 episodes will premiere November 10 at 8 p.m. on Paramount Network, with an encore two hours later on CBS, it was announced this week.

Speaking to the security guards set up in the second half of season five, Jen Landon (who plays Dutton ranch hand Teeter) explained how the cast received “redacted” scripts.

“Basically everything except your lines is blacked out,” she said.

Dawn Olivieri, who plays fixer Sarah Atwood, the romantic interest of Bentley's Jamie Dutton, added: “I don't know what she did, she doesn't know what I did. “We can't tell each other.”

Director Christina Voros explained that the show had never worked like this before and that although it brought a new set of challenges seven years later, it did so to protect the story “for the good of the audience.”

And the unique approach elicited real-time reactions from the actors that, according to Denim Richards (who plays ranch hand Colby), were “really not rehearsed.”

The creative team spoke of “tons of surprises” for viewers amid a situation that has all eyes on them.Yellowstone How high the pressure is and how good the cast is. “The cast's performances moved me more than ever before, and that's saying a lot,” Voros said as new, emotional scenes were shown featuring Reilly's Beth Dutton, Grimes' Casey Dutton, Bentley's Jaime Dutton and Hauser's Rip Wheeler.

“It brought me to tears and I think people are really, really going to love it,” Grimes said.

The episode count is yet to be confirmed as viewers tune in to see how Yellowstone will deal with Costner's departure after the John Dutton-heavy events of the midseason finale, which aired back in January 2023 (before the Costner-Sheridan disputes and Hollywood double-strikes caused delays in 2023).

Reilly and Hauser – who play married fan favorites Beth and Rip – are currently in talks to star in a potential sixth season Yellowstoneafter Season 5B was announced as the final season.

A possible sequel would be different than that Yellowstone sequel series, The Madisonin which Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox will play the main roles. This show – one of several in-universe spin-offs – is described as “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York family in central Montana's Madison River Valley.”

Yellowstone tells the story of the Dutton family, who control the largest continuous cattle ranch in the United States. It's about shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-won respect – the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders: an expanding city, an Indian reservation and America's first national park.

Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, Yellowstone is co-created by executive producers Sheridan (Wind flow, hell or high water And Sicario) and John Linson. Costner remains an executive producer along with Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay, Michael Friedman, Voros and Keith Cox. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
